Muzi Sibiya’s defense team say they’re confident that his so-called confession statement will convince the court of his innocence in Senzo Meyiwa’s killing.

The remark follows the Pretoria High Court’s ruling, ordering that the confessions of two of the accused be allowed as evidence in the main trial.

Speaking with YNews, Sibiya’s lawyer, Thulani Mngomezulu, expressed confidence that the contents of the confession statements will exonerate his client.

He’s urged South Africans to expect anything, when the crux of Sibiya and his co-accused, Bongani Ntanzi’s confessions are laid bare.

The state and defense team have been fighting tooth and nail since October for the admissibility of the confession statements.

The new evidence could prove damaging to the defense’s case, with Sibiya and Ntanzi’s confession statements likely to be used as evidence against their three other co-accused.

Five men are currently on trial for the Bafana Bafana captain’s gruesome 2014 murder.

Meyiwa’s girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, has meanwhile been implicated as the mastermind behind his killing.
