The Gauteng High Court sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court has heard how Sifiso Mkhwanazi’s alleged victims were tied up; kept captive and repeatedly raped in the days leading up to their murders.

That’s the evidence of the investigating officer in the case, Sergeant Bongani Mbonambi.

Mkhwanazi (21) faces multiple rape and murder charges after the decomposed bodies of six sex workers were discovered at his father’s panel beating workshop in October 2022.

Addressing the courtroom, Mbonambi insisted that Mkhwanazi’s alleged killing spree was calculated.

He was among the first officers to arrive at the murder scene in October 2022.

He says the victims’ bodies were not found in the room where the killings took place, indicating meticulous effort by the accused to cover his tracks.

The investigating officer also alleges that the accused used nearby dustbins to transport the lifeless bodies away from the alleged torture chamber.

According to Mbonambi, remnants of blood and other DNA evidence show signs of attempts by the accused to mop up the crime scene.

The trial continues on Monday when the police officer returns to the stand for cross-examination. Written by Naomi Kobbie
