Legal analyst, Mpumelelo Zikalala, says despite new evidence implicating singer Kelly Khumalo in Senzo Meyiwa’s murder, it’s unlikely she’ll be called to testify at this stage of the trial.
Yesterday, two men accused of the murder of the soccer star named Khumalo as the mastermind behind his killing.
According to an affidavit brought by the lead investigator in Meyiwa’s murder case, Bongani Gininda, Muzi Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi said Khumalo had given them instructions to shoot Meyiwa.
His testimony dispels initial assertions that Meyiwa’s killing was a robbery gone wrong.
The Bafana Bafana captain was gunned down at Khumalo’s home in Voosloorus in October 2014.
Khumalo and Meyiwa were dating at the time of the incident.
Zikalala says the singer may, however, form part of the witness list of the defence, who’ll likely try and discredit the state’s version.
The trial-within-a-trial for the admissibility of Ntanzi and Sibiya’s alleged confessions continues in the Pretoria High Court.
Khumalo is yet to comment on the damning allegations.
