‘Dr Lani’ insists he is a qualified medic

Alleged bogus doctor, Matthew Lani, also known as Dr Sanele Zingelwa maintains that he is a trained and qualified medical doctor despite several bodies confirming otherwise.

In his last TikTok live before his account was blocked, he accused Wits University, the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), the Health Department and the media of using his incorrect identity.

Without correcting what he claims is not his real name, he says reports suggesting that he uses the name Dr Zingelwa are false.

On Monday the Gauteng Health Department announced that investigations revealed that Dr Zingelwa is a second-year medical intern at the Tembisa Hospital.

“Lani managed to weave his way into the system pretending to be in the employ of Helen Joseph Hospital, where he moved around the hospital corridors curating content for social media.”

The provincial department and the said original Dr Zingelwa have laid criminal charges against Lani.

The alleged bogus medic is being accused of also selling pills to the public and even giving diagnoses.

Several institutions, including Wits University and the HPCSA, have rubbished claims that Lani was ever registered with them.

The HPCSA says Over 120 people have been arrested over the past three years for pretending to be registered doctors.

Practising whilst not registered with the HPCSA is a criminal offence, which could result in a fine or imprisonment.

Sama’s chairperson, Mvuyisi Mzukwa, says the issue cannot continue unabated in both the public and private sectors.

Many South Africans have taken to social media to express shock in the latest revelations about the so-called Dr, who seems to have been operating for some time now.

Dr Matthew says … Matthew Bongani Lani is his stepbrother’s name and the one who owns the company.

He claims Lani is his mother’s maiden name. He uses his father’s surname.

This contradicts his initial claim on this LIVE when he said the Lani name was just a random name he…
