Bafana Bafana head coach, Hugo Broos, has called up Kaizer Chiefs’ attacking midfielder, Pule Mmodi, to his squad to do battle against Namibia (Saturday, 9 September, 15:00) and DR Congo (Tuesday, 12 September, 17:00) in friendly matches.

Broos named his 23-man squad last week Wednesday for the upcoming international friendlies, but included no players from Kaizer Chiefs.

“I’m very sorry, but now, for a moment, there is no player who deserves to be at Bafana Bafana,” said the 71-year-old last week.

Meanwhile, the in-form Mmodi has scored three goals in two league matches and will replace Themba Zwane, who suffered a nasty cut above his eye during Mamelodi Sundowns’ 1-1 draw with Chiefs in the first leg of their MTN8 semi-final on Saturday.

Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena has also been replaced by TS Galaxy midfielder, Mlungisi Mbunjana, while midfielder Luke le Roux has withdrawn from the Bafana squad.

Broos has opted to call upon Portugal-based midfielder Sphephelo Sithole, who plays in the second division for C.D. Tondela, as his replacement.
