The Section 194 parliamentary committee has recommended that suspended Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, be removed from office.
The committee found there were grounds to sustain charges of misconduct and incompetence.

This is in relation to her probes into the Absa/Bankorp lifeboat and Vrede Dairy farm sagas.

She was also found by the majority of MPs to have displayed a lack of impartiality in her handling of the SARS rogue unit case, which implicated former commissioner Pravin Gordhan and former executive Ivan Pillay in wrongdoing linked to the establishment and operations of the unit.

The draft report of the committee will be sent to Mkhwebane to give her an opportunity to respond.
Committee members from the ANC and DA argued on why she must be removed.
The EFF, however, rejected the process.
The party says it had turned the process into a witch-hunt as it was rushed.
The EFF’s gripe was the fact that Mkhwebane didn’t have a legal team in the finalisation of her appearance before the committee.
Several parties, including the UDM, did not participate in the proceedings.

Section 194 parliamentary committee chairperson, Richard Dyantyi, says Mkhwebane has until 21 August to respond to their draft report.
