The 28th Edition of the Soweto Marathon will take place on Sunday, 5 November 2023, at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Soweto.
African Bank has taken over as the title sponsor of the marathon for the next five years following the withdrawal of Old Mutual a few years ago.
Entry fees for the race have been reduced to R380 from R550; R300 from R450 for the 21.1km and R280 from R350 for the 10km.
Entries opened on Thursday.
Race Director Danny Blumberg says that there will be a nice surprise when entries open at midnight with decreased entry fees of R380 for the Marathon; R300 for the half marathon, and R280 for the 10km! All entries will include a race tee! #SowetoMarathon2023 #ABSM2023 pic.twitter.com/3klpUgMw84

First prize for the marathon will remain R250 000 despite the new sponsor and the organisers have targeted 50 000 entrants for this year’s event.
“We’re ready for you. We have put on an event with 40 000-plus,” says Race Director, Danny Blumberg.
The marathon will follow exactly the same route, starting and finishing at the FNB Stadium.
Last year, almost 20 000 runners took part, making it the biggest mass participation single-day race in the country.
This year’s race will be broadcast live on pay TV channel, SuperSport. Article by Ntsako Mukhari
