Action SA Johannesburg leader Funzi Ngobeni has accused Joburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda of deliberatley ducking and dodging council meetings to avoid public scrutiny.
This after Gwamanda made a premature exit from yesterday’s State of the City Debate citing a mild medical condition.
Gwamanda’s departure comes at the back of cries for the mayor to account for serious fraud allegations leveled against him.
The mayor is accused of scamming innocent Johannesburg residents out of their money through a dodgy funeral investment scheme.
He supposedly left investors high and dry after they attempted to claim on their investments.
Ngobeni says Gwamanda’s apparent avoidance does not bode well for public confidence:
Members of Action SA in the city have made good on the party’s promise and filed an urgent motion of no confidence against the executive mayor.
They’ve cited Gwamanda’s failure to shed light on his alleged dubious dealings during his State of The City Adress earlier this week.
Ngobeni elaborates on the proposed motion:
Unstable coalitions in the city have seen 5 mayors hold office within the last year.
The motion for Gwamanda’s removal will be heard in council on the 20th of this month.
