City of Johannesburg Mayor, Kabelo Gwamanda, has blamed the city’s previous DA-led administration for current infrastructure challenges facing the metro.

Gwamanda made the remark’s in Braamfontein yesterday while delivering his State of the City Address (Soca).

In his maiden speech, Gwamanda committed to prioritising the city’s response to water challenges and tackling high crime levels, among other issues.

The mayor’s speech was met with much disapproval from opposition members of council, who’ve called for Gwamanda to account on fraud allegations levelled against him by some residents.

It’s alleged the mayor scammed the residents out of their money through his iThemba Lama Afrika funeral scheme, in which they invested without getting returns.

Meanwhile, young Joburg residents say they’ve grown tired of politicians and their empty promises.

They say out of touch officials cannot be expected to address their concerns.
