Many South Africans have expressed shock over the passing of renowned broadcaster, author and political commentator, Eusebius McKaiser.
McKaiser passed away on Tuesday afternoon after allegedly suffering an epileptic seizure.
The 45-year-old was born in Grahamstown and had a weekly podcast at the time of his passing, among others.
He was staying in Johannesburg.
McKaiser has worked for several media houses and was known for his sharp debating skills.
His analytical articles and columns were widely published in South African newspapers, including the TimesLive, Mail and Gaurdian and The New York Times.
Tributes have begun pouring in on social media for the Rhodes University graduate, who is described as a giant intellectual with an incisive mind.
Eusebius' death has shaken me.
Such a bright young man taken so soon.
He recently attended one of my breakfast sessions & as usual the debates were robust & intellectually stimulating. He was someone I knew would play a vital role in fixing this country.
May he rest in peace. pic.twitter.com/Y2Dn4rpNBm

I never once read, saw, or heard anything by Eusebius McKaiser that didn't make me think, rethink, laugh out loud, or shout at my radio. He was a giant of South African rhetoric, a lover of language, a stirrer of emotions. His voice, booming & mellifluous, was a force of nature.

Even if you disagreed with his views, you had to listen to what he was saying because of the clarity of both his thoughts and his ability to communicate those cogently. He was uncompromising and fearless in matters that he cared deeply about. Rest in peace, Eusebius McKaiser. 💔 pic.twitter.com/3urjNghwBK
