Sekhukhune United midfielder, Sibusiso Vilakazi, is motivated by the prospect of making history with the club when they take on Orlando Pirates in final of the Nedbank Cup on Saturday night at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

The final will be the club’s first in their history and they have already had a relatively successful season, having secured a top 8 spot in the DStv Premiership.

Vilakazi, whose won a plethora of trophies with his previous clubs (Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns), says the current squad is looking to make the club look more appealing.

“The most important thing is to create a team that’s going to inspire the upcoming ones to say Babina Noko is also a team I can go to and it’s a team that’s able to put trophies,” says the experienced talisman.

Sekhukhune go into the tie as the overwhelming underdogs, but they will be encouraged by their record against the Buccaneers this season.

Sekhukhune beat Pirates 1-0 in the first round and managed to salvage a draw in the second one.

Vilakazi says there’s also an air of excitement in the camp ahead of Saturday’s fixture.

“The most important thing is to get excited but also have excited nerves being controlled – not being taken by the moment, not playing the moment but playing the cup,” he adds.

The final will kick off at 6pm. Article by Ntsako Mkhari
