EFF leader, Julius Malema, has warned that anarchy and looting will erupt in the country should the national electricity grid collapse.
Malema made the remarks during a conversation with Stephen Sackur on BBC’s Hard Talk.
Without substantiating where he is drawing the conclusion from, he told Sackur that the grid will definitely collapse.
“I’m not wishing it. It is going to happen,” he said.
Malema first made the claims last week during a press briefing.
He accused government of seemingly not taking the current power crisis seriously.
The EFF leader’s claims come as South Africans contend with the possibility of having to spend half a day without electricity in winter after the Eskom warned that stage 8 might be implemented when push comes to shove.
The embattled power utility has, however, assured the public that a grid collapse is not imminent.
In the statement, Eskom said the risk is extremely low and the company is already implementing measure to avoid such. These include rotational power cuts and the reduction of supply.
