The Senzo Meyiwa trial resumes this morning after it was adjourned on Monday, pending a decision on a witness who had applied for a live broadcast ban of her testimony.

She has threatened to withdraw from partaking in the case should the high court in Pretoria turn down her request.

The unnamed witness is one of the people who were present when the Bafana Bafana captain was shot dead at his girlfriend’s home in Vosloorus in 2014.

According to State Prosecutor, advocate George Baloyi, while the eyewitness doesn’t mind journalists sitting in court and reporting on her testimony – she doesn’t want a live broadcast on it.

She has cited safety concerns and the fear of being ridiculed on social media as reasons for her move.

However, the defence teams have spoke with one voice, calling for the court to dismiss her application.

The media’s legal representative, Dan Rosengarten, urged the court to subpoena the witness, if needs be.
