It’s set to be another tough day for Senzo Meyiwa’s friend, Mthokozisi Thwala, when he returns to the witness stand in the high court in Pretoria today.

Yesterday, day five of his cross-examination in the Meyiwa murder trial ended with the defence
accusing him of evading questions.

Defence advocate, Charles Mnisi, had kicked off the session determined to poke holes in Thwala’s testimony.

He went for the kill when the state witness struggled to elaborate on several details linked to the Bafana Bafana captain’s murder.

There was much back and forth between the two on whether the man who pulled the trigger on Meyiwa was Zulu or Sotho.

The witness was grilled on how he managed to come to his conclusion that the assailant was Zulu.

Thwala on the other hand admitted to crossing paths with Meyiwa – just moments after the footballer was shot.

The revelation came at the back of his previous testimony, where he alleged that he fled the scene unaware that Meyiwa had been injured.

Thwala was among those present in singer Kelly Khumalo’s family home the night Meyiwa was gunned down in an alleged botched robbery in 2014. Article by Naomi Kobbie
