Amapiano hitmaker, Themba Sekowe affectionately known as DJ Maphorisa, is in hot water for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, media personality, Thuli Phongolo.

It is reported that the former Generations actress and DJ sustained serious injuries to the face, neck and chest after she was attacked by Maphorisa at her Sandton apartment.
DJ Maphorisa allegedly attacked Phongolo after she confronted him about an incident that happened at one of his gigs at the weekend.
An article published by City Press revealed that Phongolo’s statement deposed at the Sandton Police station detailed what sparked the attack.
““On Sunday 2023/5/7 at about 12pm, I was at my place of residence with my boyfriend, Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, better known as DJ Maphorisa. I confronted him so that we could talk about our argument, which happened the previous night during his gig,” said Phongolo in the statement.
“He became aggressive and started to punch me with his fists on my chest. He held me and took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck,” the statement further revealed.

The Amapiano star appeared in the Randburg Magistrate Court today and was granted R4 000 bail.

While he is due back in court on the 14th of next month – charges might be withdrawn against him after Phongolo informed the court of her decision to do so in a statement.

The news come amid concerns over the high number of gender-based violence incidents in the country.

According to Statistics South Africa, at least 21% of women in South Africa have experienced violence at the hands of an intimate partner.
