Somizi posted a video on the socials talking about getting tested for the Coronavirus and had some concerns about the quality of our public health.

Just 6 days ago, the World Health Organisation declared the Corona Virus / Covid-19 a pandemic.

A few well-known personalities have tested positive for the virus including Idris Elba, Tom Hanks and his wife, to name a few.

Somizi posted a video on Instagram earlier today, speaking about his concerns regarding the accessibility and affordability of the Covid-19 tests. This, after having just taken a test at a private hospital.

“When I asked how much the test cost, they said they charge from R1400 to R1500. Why is it expensive to test for something that is a pandemic and national crisis?,” he asks.

The media personality also speaks on the difficulty for lower-income persons to access clinics and public hospitals, and in some instances, needing to take public transport to reach help.

Somizi’s question asks about the quality and accessibility of good “health-options” for persons on different sides of the pay scale.

Following the president’s recent address, #TheBestDrive spoke about this yesterday with freelance journalist, Ayanda Tankiso, where co-host, Tshepi Mabs, touched on issues such as the difficulty of social distancing when our lower-income citizens get around using public transport.
