More than 1300 South Africans return home

The Department of International Relations and Corporations has revealed that more than 1300 South Africans have been repatriated from 17 countries. At the weekend, 80 South Africans were brought back from Italy, 206 arrived from Germany and 35 from Angola. Despite the travel restrictions, South Africans from several countries including Brazil, the United States, the United Kingdom and Nigeria, have been able to return. Transport Minister releases Easter weekend road statistics

Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has revealed that 28 people died on the roads during the Easter weekend, a significant decrease from 2019 in which 162 fatalities were recorded. Mbalula released the annual Easter weekend statistics on Friday, and said the majority of the deaths were pedestrians and single-vehicle crashes with contributions of 38% and 19% respectively. Ramaphosa announces national lockdown

In a first in Democratic South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday announced that government would implement a national lockdown for 21 days from Midnight 23:59pm on Thursday.   The lockdown follows the announcement of more than 400 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the country.
