The death of martial arts legend and actor, Chuck Norris, has sent shockwaves around the world, with tributes pouring in online.
The actor died on Friday, at the age of 86, after a medical emergency in Kauai, Hawaii.
A family member confirmed the legend’s passing on his official social media accounts, expressing gratitude for his life and the memories they shared with him.
“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning. While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.”
Norris, who celebrated his birthday in the hospital last week, will be remembered for his roles in films such as The Hitman, The Way of the Dragon alongside martial arts icon Bruce Lee, as well as the hit television series Walker, Texas Ranger.
He stepped back from the spotlight in later years, but made a final film appearance in The Expendables 2 in 2012.
Beyond the acting, Norris was a highly accomplished martial artist, holding black belts in Tang Soo Do, Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo.
He also founded his own Korean-based American hard style martial arts system, Chun Kuk Do, also known as the Chuck Norris System.
While he was widely admired for his on-screen presence and martial arts legacy, his family says they will remember him as the heart of their home.
“To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family. He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved.”
Just days before his passing, Norris marked his birthday on the 10th of March with a post on Instagram, thanking fans for their continued support.
