Social media users have expressed mixed reactions to the recent announcement that convicted American rap mogul, Sean “Diddy” Combs, will be released from prison in May 2028.
Combs was sentenced earlier this month to 50 months (over four years) in prison after being found guilty on two counts of transportation for prostitution, while being acquitted of more serious charges, including sex trafficking.
The music mogul was arrested for allegedly running a criminal enterprise and abusing, threatening, and coercing victims to “fulfill his sexual desires” over two decades.
The 55-year-old Bad Boy Records founder has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre since September 2024, with his release date accounting for time already served.
During the trial, more than 30 witnesses testified about the abuse they endured, including Combs’ former long-term partner, Cassandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura, and a former girlfriend who testified under a pseudonym, Jane.
Online reactions have been divided: critics argue the sentence is too lenient for someone of his stature, while others have mocked or downplayed the announcement.
