Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that “ongoing discussions” are taking place with head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, amid widespread speculation about his possible exit from the club.

Although the club has not officially confirmed his departure, Chiefs revealed that Nabi has not traveled with the team to Angola for their CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round first-leg clash against Kabuscorp on Saturday.

“Kaizer Chiefs confirms head coach Nasreddine Nabi is not with the team as discussions between the club and the coach remain ongoing,” the club said on Friday in a statement.

“The matter is internal and is being addressed through the appropriate processes. The club remains focused on ensuring stability and continuity for the players and supporters during this period. As this is an internal matter no further details will be shared now,” the statement read.

Other reports have suggested that Nabi and Chiefs are negotiating the termination of his contract while he is suspended, related to the validity of his UEFA Pro Licence, which is required for him to be on the bench for CAF interclub competitions. It’s understood Nabi was reminded that his licence must be renewed in order to coach during Chiefs’ Confederation Cup campaign.

Meanwhile, conflicting reports claim Nabi is seeking to leave the club to return to Tunisia following a “critical accident” involving his wife.
