Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove has described the club’s 2024/25 campaign as a failure, despite ending a decade-long trophy drought with their Nedbank Cup triumph earlier this month.

Chiefs will play Polokwane City at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon in a must-win clash. They currently sit ninth on the log with 31 points, while Polokwane also looking to consolidate their place (in the top 8) as they are in seventh on 33 points.

“From my particular opinion, I think at some point we have failed the club because we failed to deliver.” said Dove.

“When you come here, you come here to win titles and not to build or not find yourself in the position where we find ourselves now” admited the Mozambican.

Should Chiefs not finish in the top eight, it would mark the second successive season that the club fails to achieve the feat, putting more pressure on coach Nasreddine Nabi.

“Because we failed to deliver (what was expected), but that’s why we’re giving a chance to fight each and every opportunity we get.” continued Dove.

“At this point in time, we can’t dwell on the past, we have to look forward and see what’s ahead of us.

“Yes, obviously we could have had a better season. We could’ve done better that is the sentiment amongst the group.

“But I think now we just want to focus on what we can do at the moment and that’s qualifying for the top eight.”

Saturday’s match will kick-off at 15h00pm.
