Some South Africans are calling for Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s head due to his alleged poor handling of the Cwecwe rape case.
Anger swirled among South Africans over the weekend following allegations that Bergview Principal Jaco Pieterse’s DNA sample is not among the three the police had said they had taken.
Pieterse is the principal of the school in Matatiele, where Cwecwe is believed to have been raped in October last year.
A video has emerged on social media poking holes at Mchunu’s updates on this case, which has grabbed the nation’s attention with various protests held since the news first broke – demanding justice for the little girl.

President of the Truth and Solidarity Movement, Mehmet Vefa Dag, who recently launched a petition calling for #JusticeforCwecwe, has created another one calling for Mchunu to step down, among other things.
According to Dag, the continued misrepresentation of the facts by the Police Minister has resulted in a tangible breakdown of faith in his ability to lead.

Mchunu has responded to the frustration on social media, denying that he said Pieterse’s DNA samples had been taken.
“The Minister of Police never made any statement that the DNA of the third person of interest had been taken but, based on the initial report received, said he was among those suspected. He further said that DNA tests had been conducted without providing any specifics – these tests were in respect of the minor,” says his office in a statement.

South Africans on X have heavily criticised the statement, with some slamming it as an admission that he lied.
