Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, has joined South Africans who have donated money to veteran actress, Nandi Nyembe.
McKenzie called the 74-year-old following some social reports that she is facing health and financial issues.
In a viral video, McKenzie asked for the veteran actress’s banking details so he could send her money.
The 74-year-old opened up on social media about her dilemma.
Nyembe, who is known for her roles on TV series such as Soul Buddyz, Soul City, Gazlam, Yizo Yizo, and Zone 14, says the majority of her financial woes are a result of having to pay exorbitant fees for her son’s medical treatment.
The veteran actress, who’s now wheelchair-bound, says she does not want handouts but wants to work so she can earn money.
Recently more than R100 000 was donated to esteemed actress, Brenda Ngxoli, after she also opened up on social media about her struggles.
South Africans have expressed heartache over how the arts and culture sector has once again forced another veteran to seek help from the public. Written by Nokwazi Qumbisa
