Royal AM defender, Lesego Manganyi, has spoken out on the club’s financial woes, admitting that it has been difficult for the players.
The KZN based side are facing huge challenges on and off the pitch, including a FIFA transfer ban, a lack of an active DStv Diski Challenge side coupled with the non-payment of players and the owner’s R40m tax debt, which has resulted in SARS taking over the club.
The PSL had to postpone tomorrow’s match against Chippa United scheduled because players had not been training since the start of the year. Reports have now also surfaced, claiming that some players want clearances to be released from Royal AM in the current transfer window.
Earlier this week, club owner, Shauwn Mkhize, released a statement openly admitting that the players and technical staff were not paid their December salaries due to the SARS investigation into her tax debt.
However, the players have now been paid and the club’s general manager, Richard Makhoba, has confirmed that they will return to training on Monday (13 January) following the positive development.
Manganyi provided insight into how the players have found the circumstances at Thwihli Thwahla, and he was adamant that the squad can only focus on what they can control. Written by Ray Mabawa
