Former Orlando Pirates striker, Benni McCarthy, is still hoping that Senzo Meyiwa and his family will get justice.
It’s been over 10 years since Meyiwa was gunned down in Vosloorus, in Ekurhuleni. He was visiting his girlfriend and mother of his child, singer Kelly Khumalo, when he was shot and killed on October 26, 2014.
Five men are currently on trial for the killing.
McCarthy says he hopes that justice will prevail soon.
“It’s painful and it’s hard, but we have to trust that the law will do its job and find the people that took away someone so young and inspirational that had their whole life ahead of him,” he said.
Benni played with Senzo at the Buccaneers in the early 2010s upon his return to South Africa and says Senzo was a big character and a born leader.
“He was a big personality and great character, and someone that I was fond of when we were together at Pirates. I hope that justice will be done.” Written by Ntsako Mkhari
