Yires, who suspect they might have completed the recalled batch of Yaz Plus birth control pills, are encouraged to visit their doctor or pharmacy urgently, as they might be at risk of falling pregnant.
Yesterday, the pharmaceutical company, along with the South African Health Products Authority (SAHPA) announced a recall of some of its batches.
The error is recorded only on batch WEW96J, which expires in March 2026.
The recall was prompted by a mix-up in the arrangement of some packs, rendering the birth control pill ineffective.
Instead of the standard set of 24 hormone tablets and four hormone-free tablets, certain packs contain 24 hormone-free tablets and only four hormone tablets.
Bayer’s medical director for pharmaceuticals, Dr Naren Jairam, told YNews that healthcare provider will assist those who might have questions.
Dr Jairam has also moved to assure those worried over this that not all packs from the recalled batch have been affected.
Bayer has also set up a helpline for inquiries at 011 921 5000.
Imagine hearing about the Yaz Plus saga and realising you have been using the recalled stock that has 24 inactive pills 😭🕊️
