Premier Soccer League (PSL) Chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, has promised South African football fans that the new Betway Premiership trophy will be one of the most unique trophies ever created.
Khoza addressed the media in Johannesburg this morning where he revealed that the prize money for winning the inaugural Betway Premiership league title would be R20-million, which is a R5-million increase from the previous seasons.
Khoza also revealed that the official trophy for the tournament is still in the process of being made.
“Something we didn’t talk about [at the sponsorship announcement 3 months ago] was the trophy [of the league] it will take a very unique journey because it’s a trophy that has a lot of history and cultural elements around it,” Khoza explained.
“It’s going to take a bit of time to finalise – it’s a story on its own; it’s a journey of its own and when we say to the members of the fourth estate; watch this space, because it’s something monumental. You [the media] will be invited when that journey starts, to share with you, the development of that journey, the travelling of that journey, ultimately to the day we finalise the issue of the trophy, so watch this space.”
