SuperSport United and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Ricardo Goss, has taken the snub of game-time by Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, in this month’s AFCON Qualifiers with a pinch of salt.

With regular number one, Ronwen Williams, unavailable due to injury, Goss, Veli Mothwa (both Bafana regulars), and Sipho Chaine were called up to represent the nation.

Mothwa had a howler of a game in the first match, with Uganda conceding two goals, one of which should have been a routine catch for an international keeper. That saw Broos play Chaine in the next match against South Sudan, ahead of Goss and Chaine.

Bafana also conceded two goals in that fixture.

”We’ve always known that Veli is number two, so that wasn’t a surprise, and it was so unfortunate that he made a mistake when he felt like it was his chance,” said Goss.

“In the second game, Sipho gets to start. I feel he got it because he’s a quality keeper, and secondly because he had more minutes than us, so it makes sense if you think of it like that.”

The 30-year-old has also not shied away from feeling aggrieved by the snub.

“I also thought it would be a run for me, but at the end of the day it’s the coach’s decision and it will be interesting to see who gets the call up now,” said the KZN-born keeper. Written by Ntsako Mukhari
