After 27 years of keeping South Africans captivated the actors from β€˜Muvhango’ have taken their final bow as the curtain closed for the last time last night for the popular soapie.

The hit TshiVenda language drama, which was the first of its kind in the language, has played on SABC 2 since April 7, 1997.

The soapie’s loyal viewers took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their shock after learning that the episode they’d just watched was their last.

It was written by veteran poet, filmmaker, producer, journalist and playwright, Duma ka Ndlovu in 1997.

The drama portrayed the conflict between the modern lifestyle of South Africans in the 1990s, compared with the ancient and sacred traditions of tribal Africans.

‘Muvhango’ has introduced Mzansi to some of its now favourite actors which includes Gabriel Temudzani, Dingaan Khumalo, and Khabonina Qubeka.

It’s surprise departure comes close to eight months after popular Afrikaans drama, 7de Laan was cancelled after 23 years.
