Some parents and students are hoping mad after one of South Africa’s privately-run fashion schools, Fedisa Fasion School in Sandton decided to hastily uproot without giving them enough time to make alternative plans.

Speaking to YNews, they said the institution, which has been operating for 19 years, notified them last week Wednesday that it would be moving to Cape Town.

They were also given the option to relocate to complete their studies or to register at another institution.

Considering the short notice, some have expressed their fears of the very little prospect of finishing their qualifications.

When YNews visited the institution last week Friday, we were told that the aggrieved individuals have nothing to worry about, as the situation is under control.

However, when we returned today, we were denied entry and informed that the institution had closed down officially on Friday and that all inquiries should be directed to the school’s Cape Town offices.

Some have accused the institution’s management of being arrogant and reckless with the futures of the young people who are studying there.

One parent expressed her frustration to YNews, saying the institution seems unbothered by the impact its decision will have on its students.

Another parent says her daughter is very upset by this unexpected change.

She says the young woman trusted the institution with her future and it failed her.

She adds that the two options that they have been offered are made on the assumption that each parent will automatically choose one or the other which is unfair.

She describes how they found out that no other institution is offering some of the degrees Fedisa has.

One former student expressed how she and her friends are uncomfortable with their sudden reality and that they do not trust the institution to have their best interest at heart.

Fedisa had not responded to YNews by the time the story was published. Written by Nokwazi Qumbisa
