The National Arts Festival is in full swing in Makhanda, in the Eastern Cape.
A diversity of work across culture and genre are on offer at the annual event, which is in its 50th year.
It kicked off today and will run until the last day of this month.
The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has injected R14 million into the country’s longest running and most diverse arts festival.
The Department’s Andile Nduna says the investment shows government’s commitment to grow the creative sector and support local artists.
The CEO of the National Arts Festival, Monica Newton, says each festival is a product of the imagination of artists as well as the team who are able to present the multidisciplinary arts on various platforms.
She says the event opens doors for many of its participants, which is evident in the multitude of artists who attend the festival getting opportunities abroad. Written by YNews Contributor, Lamile Miya
