EFF leader, Julius Malema, says the party has decided to change its strategy in the National Assembly as the country’s lawmakers take their oath of office.

Ahead of the inaugural sitting of the seventh administration last night, Malema assured the public that no red overalls and berets will be seen flying across Parliament during this administration.

He says they’ve decided to fully participate and make sure the views of those who voted for them are well presented.

The party is infamous for being a rubble rouse in the National Assembly.

It would cause chaos and render a sitting ungovernable whenever it had a bone to pick with a sitting President.

During the 2015 and 2017 SONAs, EFF MPs were removed from Parliament for disrupting proceedings. A decision they attempted to have declared unconstitutional in court without success.

Now, the rebranding EFF is hoping that the party’s National Chairperson, Veronica Mente, will today be elected as the National Assembly Speaker.

The red berets have also thrown Floyd Shivambu’s hat in the ring – to head Parliament’s finance committee.

However, it’s unlikely to get what it wants as unconfirmed reports point to the DA and the ANC having clinched a deal to elect a speaker from the governing party while the deputy will be from the DA.

In a no holds barred media address, the EFF leader threw jabs at the ANC’s proposed Government of National Unity (GNU), saying his party won’t participate in a government that includes right-wing and reactionary political parties.

He has labelled the GNU as a plan B for the Oppenheimers.

Today, however, the party joined members of the newly formed progressive caucus, calling on the ANC to return to the negotiation table, to include them in the GNU.

The caucus, with a total of 48 seats in Parliament, includes Al Jamah, and UDM, UAT, ATM.

It held a briefing earlier this morning, with ATM leader, Vuyo Zungula, accusing the ANC of cherry-picking parties that it wants to work with and lying to the country about putting together a Government of National Unity. Written by Lindiwe Mpanza
