The Pretoria High Court will today rule on the admissibility of confession statements made by two of the accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.
Lawyers for Muzi Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi have argued that the confessions were coerced and the court should throw them out.
Closing arguments in the trail within a trial came to an end in the Pretoria High Court on Monday afternoon.
The trial-within-a-trial has been running since October last year, with a ruling on the confession statements likely to weigh heavily on both the state and the defenses’ cases.
Announcing a date for his decision on the matter – Mokgoathleng reminded counsels that the ruling would be made simply on the allowance of the confession statements in the courtroom, rather than a final judgement on guilt or innocence of the accused in Meyiwa’s killing. Written by Naomi Kobbie
