Yires call for better protection of minors in entertainment industry

Young South Africans are calling for better protection for minors working in the entertainment industry.

Their remarks follow news that former Nickelodeon child star, Drake Bell, is set to share his account of sexual abuse, allegedly at the hands of a Nickelodeon employee.

A new docuseries, about the dark side of kids TV, features Bell and other former child stars – discussing child grooming and the sexual abuse of minors in the entertainment industry.

The star’s alleged abuser, Brian Peck, was his former dialogue coach and had worked on popular shows including “The Amanda Show” and “The Suite Life of Zac and Cody.”

Other child stars who’ve opened up about the price of fame recently include “That So Raven Star” Raven Symone and iCarly Star, Janette McCurdy.

The young people YNews spoke to say while the allegations of abuse are shocking, they’re not surprising.
