Former Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, has rejected claims that she joined the EFF out of bitterness.
Mkhwebane made the remarks during a question and answer session after she had announced that she will be joining the EFF in Kwaggafontein, in Mpumalanga, on Monday.
The unexpected announcement comes a month after she was booted from her job after 318 MPs voted for her removal, while 43 wanted her to stay.
Her seven-year term as Public Protector officially ended this past week.
The red berets are one of the parties that had in the past disagreed with her impeachment, going as far as calling it a witch-hunt.
Mkhwebane reads out the party’s declaration in the clip below:

The former Public Protector cited the fact that she can relate to the EFF’s pillars, which speak for the poor and marginalised, as one of her reasons she joined the party.

Mkhwebane says she was dealt with harshly by the ANC and DA, and she withstood that treatment to expose their lack of interest in serving the poor and the marginalised.

The former Public Protector says other political parties had also asked her to join them but she declined the requests.
She says she was never a member of any party, including the ANC, as her former job required that she remained non-partisan.
