With less than 20 days to go until the first Netball World Cup tournament on African soil gets underway, premier sponsor, Discovery Vitality, has pulled out as the showpiece’s naming right’s sponsor.

In a statement, Discovery says, the parties were unable to reach an agreement after negotiations.

“As indicated in our earlier statement in February, it was our intention to be the title sponsor of the Netball World Cup 2023. Regrettably, following negotiation, we were unable to reach a mutually agreeable partnership. Discovery is therefore focusing its support for netball on the national teams in South Africa and England, namely the Proteas and the Vitality Roses,” reads the statement.

Discovery also added that their decision is necessitated by World Netball’s announcement of Telkom and Spar as premium partners of the competition.

“This is aligned to the update from World Netball and the Netball World Cup 2023 announcing Telkom and SPAR as premium partners of the tournament sharing the major billing, with a roster of other major partners now coming on board.”

The Netball World Cup will be hosted in Cape Town from 28 July to 6 August.
