Rep Your Hood | MUST WATCH Hip Hop Battle!

YFM has always been known for breaking new talent and giving upcoming artists an equal chance on the various music shows to exhibit what they are all about.

A show that’s at the forefront of anchoring young artists raw talent is ‘SA Hip Hop Live.’ The Thursday night show has in the last two years of its existence been the home ground for fresh South African hip hop talent. It has found incredibly skilled talent to join the hip hop culture conversations and interact in cyphers on the show.

‘Rep Your Hood’ is a dynamic cypher segment that’s become the flagship of this show. Hosts DJ Zan D and Samke Mhlongo pride themselves on finding rappers from various neighbourhoods on a weekly basis.

“The Rep Your Hood’ cypher showcases talented rappers from various places around the country with the aim of finding out which hood has the best rappers in SA” explains Mhlongo.

Each week, three rappers get the opportunity to go head-to-head, representing the place they come from.

The rappers are able to show how versatile they are by preparing verses that ‘rep their hood’ through the use of the two locally produced beats provided to them by the hosts.

Transparency is one of the key elements of the show, giving no room for favouritism as winners are picked out by the YFM listeners who decide which hood had the best rapper each week.
