ANC’s National spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, says the party is engaging with the the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) over outstanding staff salaries at Luthuli House.<\/p>\n

Several staff members reportedly did not receive their November salaries, with workers saying late payments have become a recurring problem. Some employees staged a picket yesterday outside the Boksburg venue where the ANC is holding its week-long National General Council (NGC).<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, ANC Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula, revealed that the party\u2019s monthly salary bill stands at about R20 million.<\/p>\n

Bhengu-Motsiri says the ANC is working to resolve the issue and ensure all outstanding payments are finalised.<\/p>\n

“The ANC wants to turn around the situation of making sure that our talented members of staff\u00a0\u00a0are remunerated on time and consistently, as it should be, because they contribute a lot to the success of our organisation,” she said.\u00a0“And we need them up and running to do that support\u00a0and also to be able to attend to the welfare of their own families.”<\/p>\n

Bhengu-Motsiri also emphasised that the ANC had been heavily reliant on donations from allies in the past.<\/p>\n

“Today, the ANC has transitioned into government, and therefore that donor environment has shrunk,\u00a0not just for the ANC; this is not unique to the ANC, but it has shrunk to the detriment of parties that are in government but are still pursuing the liberation project.”<\/p>\n

“If the ANC were a corrupt party, we would not be poor. We would be tapping into the resources of the state.”<\/p>\n\t
