Governance expert, Leo Maphosa, says the election of Loyiso Masuku as the ANC regional chairperson in Johannesburg is not just symbolic, but strategic.<\/p>\n

Masuku defeated incumbent Dada Morero, to claim the top regional position.<\/p>\n

He says Masuku’s rise signals a recalibration of the party’s approach in one of South Africa\u2019s most hotly contested metros.<\/p>\n

She becomes the first female leader to occupy the position.<\/p>\n

Maphosa believes that Masuku embodies a new leadership profile for the party.<\/p>\n

“She’s young, sharp, governance-minded and unburdened by the factional baggage that has\u00a0weighed down holding politics for years.”<\/p>\n

“The ANC has realised that old formulas are no longer producing new outcomes. Voters want credibility, competence and clarity,” Maphosa said.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on Morero’s tenure, Maphosa says there were moments of organisational strength; however, instability also cast a shadow over his term.<\/p>\n

“Mayoral changes, fragile coalitions, service delivery disruptions and persistent functional\u00a0tensions. It became clear at some point that the party needed a reset.”<\/p>\n

Maphosa added that heading to the Local Government Elections<\/a> next year, Masuku may offer the ANC something it hasn’t had in years.<\/p>\n

He says Masuku\u2019s organisational experience and influence within the region could play a pivotal role in stabilising the ANC\u2019s structures and shaping its governance outlook in the city.<\/p>\n

“She brings administrative experience\u00a0from her time as MMC, she has survived quite several political storms, and she carries a\u00a0public image that resonates with younger voters while still commanding respect inside the movement.”<\/p>\n

He says Masuku may be the promise of a reset.<\/p>\n

“If she can turn symbolism into strategy and strategy into service, her election\u00a0\u00a0could mark the beginning of an ANC resurgence in Johannesburg,” Maphosa said. “Her rise marks the end of the ANC’s comfort zone and potentially the beginning of its renewal.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Loyiso Masuku says\u00a0her priority is to rebuild the organisation and reclaim the political ground it has lost in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n\t
