The family of slain scientist, Dorcas ‘Didi’ Lekganyane<\/a>, says it is preparing for a difficult road ahead as the trial into their her murder approaches.<\/p>\n

Lekganyane was stabbed to death in July 2024 at her Bramley home, allegedly by his husband, Cecil Kekana.<\/p>\n

He was found next to her lifeless body after he allegedly tried to commit suicide following the incident. Her family says Kekana may have felt threatened by her success.<\/p>\n

He faces charges of premeditated murder and defeating the ends of justice.<\/p>\n

The trial is set to begin on 2 March in the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge.<\/p>\n

Didi’s uncle and family spokesperson, Dr Robert Lekganyane, said the family hopes Kekana will tell the truth about what happened and that the State\u2019s evidence will prove his responsibility for her murder.<\/p>\n

“We are hoping that some sense will prevail in him and that he will tell us the truth regarding what happened on the day,” he said. “But we are also looking forward to the kind of evidence that the state is going to lead for the purpose of proving that he is the person responsible for the murder of our lovely sister.”<\/p>\n

He added that he hopes Didi\u2019s death will not be in vain and that all victims of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) will find justice.<\/p>\n

NPA Gauteng spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane, said authorities are confident they have a watertight case against the accused.<\/p>\n

“We view cases of this nature in a severe light as the NPA, and for every matter to be enrolled, that docket must pass the test of prospects of a successful prosecution, and this case has passed those checks.”<\/p>\n\t
