President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa “will not be bullied”, insisting that the G20 declaration will go ahead without the United States.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the sidelines of the G20 Social Summit\u2019s closing ceremony at Nasrec, Ramaphosa reaffirmed that preparations for this weekend\u2019s historic gathering \u2014 which will host leaders from 40 nations \u2014 are on track.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump warned Pretoria against issuing a joint leaders’ declaration at the summit.<\/p>\n

Tensions between the two countries<\/a> have escalated over several issues, including South Africa\u2019s genocide case against Israel at the ICJ and the Land Expropriation Act.<\/p>\n

Trump has repeatedly claimed “bad things” are happening in South Africa, including the long-debunked myth of a white genocide. He recently hosted a South African delegation \u2014 including Ramaphosa, businessman Johan Rupert and cabinet ministers \u2014 at the White House in an attempt to ease tensions, but the meeting yielded little progress.<\/p>\n

Ramaphosa maintains the summit remains \u201call systems go\u201d and says all engagements are progressing positively.<\/p>\n

“We will have a declaration, the talks are going extremely well, and I’m confident we are moving towards a declaration. They are not just dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s.”<\/p>\n

Speaking at the same gathering, Ramaphosa announced the classification of Gender Based Violence and Femicide<\/a> as a crisis.<\/p>\n

“We do have a challenge of GBV, and the women of our country are crying out that they need much more focus on the issue of GBV, they need protection, they need support, and they need assistance largely from their government and the men of South Africa.<\/p>\n

“We have agreed among all social partners that we need to take extraordinary and concerted action, using every means at our disposal to end this crisis,” Ramaphosa said.<\/p>\n\t
