National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, says he will allow the courts to deal <\/span>with his deputy, Shadrack <\/span>Sibiya’s<\/span> suspension<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sibiya was placed on special leave in July after being implicated in alleged corruption by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General <\/span>Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi<\/span><\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mkhwanazi placed P<\/span>olice Minister,<\/span> Senzo Mchunu and Sibiya, at the centre of what has <\/span>been described<\/span> as a crisis at the South\u00a0African Police Service (SAPS).<\/span><\/p>\n

The embattled Deputy National Commissioner is now fighting back and is demanding that he <\/span>be reinstated<\/span> by Friday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a letter from his lawyers, Sibiya claims his suspension was unlawful and that he was not <\/span>given an opportunity<\/span> to defend himself.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sibiya says Masemola failed to follow the prescribed procedure.<\/span><\/p>\n

“H<\/span>e has effectively suspended me based on untested allegations which he heard in a media briefing and without providing me the mandatory opportunity to make representations,<\/span>” <\/span>Sibiya said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sibiya maintains that he is innocent and is ready to prove it with backed-up evidence.<\/span><\/p>\n

With tensions rising within the <\/span>police\u2019s<\/span> top ranks, Masemola, <\/span>has refused to comment further, saying the matter will be ventilated in court.<\/p>\n

Sibiya’s<\/span> latest push to <\/span>have<\/span> his position <\/span>back<\/span> comes a few days before the start of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which will probe <\/span>Mkhwanazi’s<\/span> allegations of <\/span>rot<\/span> within the police force.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System\u00a0will\u00a0begin its hearings <\/span>on the 1st of\u00a0September<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The inquiry, led by retired Constitutional Court Judge, Mbuyiseli Madlanga, will investigate allegations of corruption, political interference and criminality within the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n

Retired Constitutional Court judge<\/span>, <\/span>Mbuyiseli Madlanga<\/a>, has assured the public that his team will investigate the matter <\/span>thoroughly<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n\t
