Angry parents and activists are demanding swift action following the violent attack on learners at the Soshanguve South Secondary School by members of the Community Policing Forum (CPF).<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Learners claim that the principal summoned CPF patrollers to\u00a0beat\u00a0them for arriving late to school on Monday, while some of the victims say they have been unable to return after that incident.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
As tensions continue to simmer some parents have threatened to damage school infrastructure if their concerns are not addressed.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The parents are demanding the immediate apprehension of any school authorities found complicit in the abuse, warning that they will not rest until justice is served.<\/div>\n

“This is unacceptable. We are going into the school premises and will cause chaos inside there today. We want a bright future for our kids, we didn’t enroll them into the school so that they can be attacked,” says one infuriated parent.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“The CPF patrollers must be arrested and the teachers must also be suspended because they should not allow such things to happen at the school,” says another angry parent.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Meanwhile, the\u00a0\u00a0Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) says preliminary investigations indicate the principal was not involved in the violent attack.<\/div>\n

GDE spokesperson Steve Mabona confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.<\/div>\n
“Once we heard the allegations, we sent a team to come and investigate if it is true. The investigation is very clear, from the onset we knew that our employees were not implicated. The allegations that the principal of the school is involved in the attack were refuted,” says Mabona.<\/div>\n

The department also confirmed that police have launched a manhunt for the CPF patrollers captured in a video circulating on social media, which shows the alleged assault on the learners.<\/div>\n

Learning and teaching was disrupted yesterday when learners joined anggrieved community members who were demonstrating outside the school.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Learners at the school have come forward with disturbing accounts of abuse, with some admitting they are often terrified to attend classes.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
According to the learners, the School Governing Body (SGB) frequently calls on CPF patrollers to intervene in cases of student fights, smoking, or other forms of so-called antisocial behavior\u2014raising serious concerns about the appropriateness of such disciplinary measures.<\/div>\n

Thabang Mokwele, a Grade 11 learner, shared a harrowing account of the alleged abuse learners are subjected to at the school.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“They were beating some of my class mates with a sjambok and even with slaps across their faces. Some were even forced to do push-ups; they were just being violent against the learners.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
On Monday, they did it again to kids who came late to school, they were beating them with sjambok and broom sticks,” says Mokwele.<\/div>\n
