The South African rugby community is mourning the loss of former Springbok wing, Cornal Hendricks.<\/p>\n
The 37-year-old tragically passed away on Wednesday after suffering a heart attack.<\/p>\n
Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, expressed heartfelt sorrow over the news, describing Hendricks\u2019 death as a devastating loss to the nation\u2019s sporting fraternity.<\/p>\n
In an official statement, Minister McKenzie extended his deepest condolences to Hendricks\u2019 family, friends, teammates, and the wider rugby community.<\/p>\n
“Cornal was more than just a rugby player; he was a beacon of resilience and determination. Born on April 18, 1988, in Paarl, he rose from humble beginnings, attending Bergrivier High School in Wellington, to represent South Africa on the international rugby stage. His journey from playing for the Boland Cavaliers to earning 12 caps for the Springboks between 2014 and 2015 was testament to his huge dedication, self-belief, discipline, and undeniable talent.” said McKenzie.<\/p>\n
Messages of condolences have been pouring in from the rugby world throughout Thursday from those who knew and supported the player.<\/p>\n
SA Rugby President Mark Alexander also paid tribute, hailing Hendricks as a beloved figure in South African rugby.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Cornal Hendricks, a remarkable athlete who represented his country in sevens and fifteen-man rugby with distinction,\u201d said Alexander.<\/p>\n
