The state says it will oppose bail, should Longwe Twala attempt to re-secure his release.
Twala, who was re-arrested on Tuesday after failing to appear in court in October on theft charges, made a brief appearance in the Randburg Magistrates Court earlier today.
He was out on bail after allegedly stealing over R200 000 worth of studio equipment from his father music producer, Chicco Twala.
He was released last month on a warning after his lawyer successfully argued that he was not a flight risk.
Longwe, whose been implicated in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case, has long been struggling with drug addiction, with his father saying he was stealing from family to support his habit.
NPA spokesperson, Phindi Mjonodnwane, says while Twala has the right to re-apply after his bail was revoked, he has already shown he cannot be trusted.
“He has a right to apply for bail but mostly probably as the state we will be opposing his bail. We will divulge more of our reasons at a later stage,” said Mjonodnwane.
Twala told the court he was not able to make his previous court appearance after falling ill.
The state, however, has insisted it will need to verify these claims and investigate whether Twala had visited a medical doctor.
He returns to court next Wednesday as investigating officers scramble to verify his version of events.
