The Randburg Magistrate Court has ruled that former Ukhozi FM DJ Ngizwe Mchunu has a case to answer in relation to his 2021 July unrest case.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Mchunu, known for his famous phrase ‘Ayikhale’, faces charges of inciting violence during the deadly unrest and violating the Disaster Management Act.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
At least 354 people lost their lives when riots flared up in parts of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
They were sparked by the incarceration of former President, Jacob Zuma.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Zuma had handed himself over to police in Estcourt after the defying a Constitutional Court ruling for him to appear the Zondo Commission, which was probing the capture of state-owned entities.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
South Africa’s economy is still reeling from the unrest, which cost the country R50 billion in damages and led to the loss of 150 000 jobs.<\/div>\n

Among those arrested and listed as instigators is Fees Must Fall activist, Bonginkosi Khanyile and ANC councilor in Gauteng, Clarence Tabane.<\/div>\n

The riots started at the Mooi River Plaza in KZN, which spread to other surrounding areas and Gauteng, where citizens were burning trucks, looting shops , warehouses, malls, distilleries and damaging buildings.<\/div>\n

Mchunu maintains that he is innocent and that his arrest was politically motivated.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The former DJ is currently out on R2000 bail.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He believes that all the charges against him are fabricated, he says voicing his dissatisfaction about Zuma’s arrest is not a crime.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

The matter will return to court on the 5th of July for further hearing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
