Tyla bags two nominations at 2025 MTV VMAs

South African music sensation, Tyla, has scored two nominations at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

The 23-year-old is nominated in the Best Choreography and Best Afrobeats categories for her hit single Push 2 Start, continuing her global rise and spotlighting African music on the world stage.

Last year, the Grammy Award winner made history as the first African artist to be nominated and win a VMA.

Leading the pack this year is Lady Gaga with 12 nominations, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Best Album for her 2023 release Mayhem. This marks the third time Gaga tops the nomination list. She currently boasts 18 career VMAs.

Bruno Mars follows with 11 nominations, while Kendrick Lamar comes in third with 10.

This year’s VMAs will also introduce two new categories – Best Country Artist and Best Pop Artist.

The star-studded event is set to take place on September 7th at the UBS Arena in New York.
