Mamelodi Sundowns will face Malian side Stade Malien in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals, following the draw conducted on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt.
The Tshwane giants avoided last season’s finalists Pyramids FC, who beat them in the final, as well as record champions Al Ahly.
Mamelodi Sundowns will host the first leg at home on the weekend of 13 March, with the return leg scheduled to take place in Bamako a week later.
Stade Malien were one of the surprise packages of the group stage, topping their group and advancing comfortably to the last eight.
Sundowns booked their place in the knockout rounds with a 2–0 victory over MC Alger in their final Group C match at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, finishing second behind Al Hilal of Sudan.
CAF Champions League quarter-final fixtures:
Renaissance Berkane (Morocco) v Al Hilal (Sudan)
Esperance (Tunisia) v Al Ahly (Egypt)
Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) v Stade Malien (Mali)
Royal Armed Forces (Morocco) v Pyramids (Egypt)
The team mentioned first plays at home in the first leg.
If you say you can wait for these fixtures, we don’t believe you.
