The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has asked the Constitutional Court to extend the party’s deadline to submit answering affidavits in its legal battle against the IEC.
Party lawyers cited short notice and party leaders being spread across the country as they try to win the hearts and minds of South Africans as reasons for the request.
They say next week Tuesday is a reasonable time for them to file their objections to the IEC’s case.
The IEC approached the Apex Court after the Electoral Court gave Zuma the go ahead to participate in next month’s general elections, in a move MK Party spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, says shows the Electoral Commission’s bias.
Ndhlela has refuted claims that the former president has taken ill, possibly due to the demands of the elections campaign as they crisscross the country in bid to win the minds and hearts of voters.

The upcoming legal battle to have Zuma’s face on the ballot next month has tongues wagging on social media platform X, previously called Twitter. Written by Odirile Rabolao
A nugatory and pointless argument ….when it suits you… you take it with both hands… but when it is taken further… you come with lame excuses…mxm…cult politics…

I think MK should allow Zondo to break the law even more by removing Zuma’s face unlawful. Because the Electoral commission judgement is final and Zondo knows this, let him break the law, that will be his legacy, that will give us a chance to dispute election results
