Eskom has announced the return of stage 6 load shedding on Wednesday afternoon amid the below freezing temperatures.
This is due to the loss of generating units overnight and the extensive use of open cycle gas turbines, amongst other issues.
The embattled power utility says stage 4 load shedding will be implemented from 5 am till 2pm daily, followed by stage 6 in the evenings.
The rolling power cuts come a few days after Minister of Electricity, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, revealed that Eskom is burning less diesel than anticipated this winter.
Social media is abuzz over the developments.

The news also come as Johannesburg residents contend with dry taps amid Rand Water’s planned maintenance at major pumping stations, which began last night. A number of suburbs in the city will be without water for the next two days.
Rand Water says the planned shutdown is to repair multiple valves at the Vereeniging Water Treatment Plant and the Eikenhof Booster pumping station.
The affected areas include, Soweto , Joburg Central, Randburg and Roodepoort.
The water utility says over 60 roaming tankers will be allocated to supply water to the affected areas.
Alternative water supply will be arranged at hospitals, clinics , schools, municipal officer and police stations.
